When buying an whirlpool estate fridge from another party, will the warranty transfer?

  • Hoping someone watching may have had a similar experience. Thanks in advance!

  • I don't think so. The warranty is usually for the original owner and paperwork is required to be submitted when purchased. The only things that "may" be covered with a new owner is a recall part that has failed.

  • Yes. The warranty is on the unit, not the customer.

For the first year you might need the sales slip for the full first year warranty ( or what ever length it is) on all parts and service.

But for the extended warranty on the compressor we can use the manufacture date on the model number label. But that date will be a little earlier than the purchase date.

Recently the manufacturers figured out few people check the warranties on what they are buying as they only shop for price. So to lower price they have made the warranties shorter. In that case it may have expired already.

And if the owner registered it as you are supposed to do then Whirlpool has a record of the purchase date. But most people don't bother.

    Good Luck.

  • Wouldn't you also need the original receipt?
