Should a teenager that isn't in school and in constant trouble with the law be made to join the military ?

  • I think if they are causing trouble for our court systems and are headed for a life of crime, they should be made to join!
I would rather pay their salary than their public defenders

  • No, the military isn't a rehabilitation program. Our troops have enough to do than to babysit or be endangered by delinquents who don't want to be there.

  • no! perfect loyalty and discipline is needed in the army.lives depend on it.if someone slacks off while on a mission or purposely sabotages the mission by not doing his or her part, all the other men and women in that troop can be hurt or even killed! a "loose cannon" or someone who purposely causes trouble in the middle of an altercation, could lead to tragedy.an army of volunteers, who willingly take on these challenges is far more capable than one filled with career criminals or kids who display malicious and impulsive behaviour..

  • Military style "boot camp" would be a better alternative than actually putting troubled kids in the military.

First, there is the issue of a quality military. Right now we have a volunteer military. If you ship off troubled kids who don't want to be there, can they be trusted to serve our country well?

Also, there is the issue of cruel and unusual punishment, which is against the constitution. If some kid keeps committing petty thefts for whatever reason, do they deserve to be forced into life-threatening situations?

Quite frankly, I think your argument is appalling. You aren't suggesting the military as an alternative punishment. You are suggesting it as an alternative to a trial. You think that if a kid is ACCUSED of a crime they should be sent into the military. This goes against everything our legal system is founded on.

  • It seems this would create a one way ticket for troubled youths---don't help them, ship them off to war. And the kids that would go would be the poorest--those least able to afford a lawyer. But I do believe military-like training can be very helpful for wayward kids.

  • Legally, yes that would be a fantastic idea. Lawfully, however, it wouldn't be.

  • Depends on what the troubled teen did. I would not want drug dealers and crack heads put into the military.
With some of these teens, A life in the military is exactly what they have been looking for but could not get it in society otherwise. A brotherhood, A group of people working together for the common good of the majority! I have meet some people that said that they had two choices, one was go to jail for life, or join the military. They joined the military, and I will have to say, they were some of the best people I knew while I was in. For some reason the structure and discipline straightened them out. I Think it is a good way to make good men out of low self esteem individuals who act out.

  • firstly why would our military want an uneducated unreliable pain in their side.
Pros: some kids latch on to the experience and become educated good soldiers and go on to leading Purpose-full productive lives positive pillars in there community's. there lives changed Forever.
Cons: some just become worse nothings than they ever were get the boot and wind up right back were they were never to grow up only more dangerous than they previously were like prison makes our criminals worse the armed services teach us how to kill. No you cant make anyone join only give them the option even as an alternative to incarceration it must be their choice. besides we are supposed to be a civilized society democracy based not a communist or socialist regime. otherwise everyone would do a tour, personally I think that would be a good thing....

  • HELL YES, MILITARY WILL TEACH DISCIPLINARY. GET YOU IN TOUCH IN WHAT YOU WANT OUT OF LIFE AND TEACH YOU ABOUT HOW TO FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS.

  • No because I don't want to deal with these f*ck ups that don't want to do anything. I wouldn't want to serve with someone who I don't trust with my life. They should just lock them up before the problems get worse.
