  • would this make any since? I know they are all in a big bind right now so if they would work with each other in this manner, I know they each want there own ID on things but they would be working towards a better good in the end. Each company take on building certain parts for a better MPG vehicle and then market it so we come off the oil that we use all the time. they would be keeping there people working and helping the country at the same time. do you think something like this could work?

  • I HAVE THOUGHT FOR SOME TIME NOW THAT THE BIG 3 SHOULD MERGE. I FEEL THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN COMPETE WITH TOYOTA, HYUNDI AND SO FORTH. I have relatives that have worked for Ford and are retired and man their benefits are to die for. fully paid health care, PRESCRIPTIONs ARE $2.00, they also pay for thier social security premium, great pension and so on. NOW HOW CAN THIS KEEP GOING ON IF THEY ARE TO COMPETE??????? Why have the unions gotten away with this greed and I personally feel the union are to blame for ,most of the downfall of the big 3,

  • If it would have been done 20 years ago, yes it could potentially work. However, the logistics behind doing something like that would take years and years of work and billions of dollars to accomoplish. This is time and money the US Automotive industry does not have. Making a product people want to buy isn't the underlying problem. The underlying problem is that the cost of labor to produce automobiles in the US is through the roof. To fix the problem we need to bring down labor costs.

The good news, the demand for automobiles will not change. Even if those companies no longer exists.... somebody will need to make cars to supply our demand. Those cars, no matter what name is stamped on them, will be made here in America with American workers.

The bad news, labor cuts MUST be made. This can come from one of two options. Either pay the labor less money... or pay less people. Bottom line, unions must either renegotiate their contracts to alow for less pay, or they need to alow the manufacturers to lay off more labor and ask for more work from their laborers.
