  • i don't want rants about either of these books or to hear about how much people love either of them. Please give reasoned answers.

  • yes i think he ripped it off totally. the ony reason it got published was because his parents owned ba publishing company.

    xox

  • I think that Eragon is much more similar to the Lord Of The Rings.

  • well...eragon supposedly ripped the plotline off starwars (i havent seen sw so i cant really comment)
and eragon ripped the rest of the plot, locations, races, cultures, and very very specific details off lord of the rings pretty much to the point of direct plagerism (which i can verify)

http://www.anti-shurtugal.com/starwars.h... (a little biased, i cant find the site where it offered a balanced argument, i will post it if i can find it)

  • it's okay, Star Wars ripped off Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress" and a western called "The Searchers"

  • Are you asking whether I think Eragon ripped off Star Wars? Of course.

A young farmer living with his uncle figures out that he is the last of a dying group (dragon rider, Jedi). After the death of his uncle, he goes out into the world with a wise old man, attempting to bring down an evil leader, and also to figure out the mysteries of his father (who he never met). On the way, the wise old man dies and the hero meets a rebellious and mysterious man (Han, Murtagh). Together they save a princess, and continue on their journey.

This is the summary for both Star Wars and Eragon. The resemblance is too striking to be a mere coincidence. And Christopher Paolini has admitted that Star Wars was one of his inspirations.

Eragon took Star Wars, styled it in the way of Lord of the Rings, added a few touches of originality, and made Eragon. I am disappointed in his lack of ingenuity.

  • I think Eragon stole some of Lord of the Ring's ideas.

  • Eragon is okay but it is a LOT like Star Wars.... when you think aobut it.

Though pointing out 2 and 2 to some of my peers has't worked I stand by my own conclusion.

  • Yes...and very much so. I haven't read Brisingr yet so I don't know if that follows the pattern. But so far it seems that way.

  • Yes, it did. Think about it. Eragon is my favourite book, and Star Wars is my favourite movie. I actually think it copied off of Dune just as much.

  • There's a lot of similarities, but Eragon HAS met his father. I'm not saying who, but its not who you think it is. You gotta read the 3rd book if you haven't already.
