  • From Dec - April 09 I will be auditioning for 6/7 drama schools and I was wondering if anyone can advise me on a song to sing for part of my audition process? Some schools require you to do 2 contrasting pieces and a song! singing is not my forte! Im not terrible! but I was wondering if you can recommend a song thats easy to sing and learn!? thanks

  • try something broadway-ish.
Beauty and the Beast - 'A Change In Me'
West Side Story - 'I Feel Pretty'
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat - 'Prologue' (this one's really short)

    or you could go disney
The Little Mermaid - 'Part of Your World'
Pocahontas - 'Just Around The River Bend' 'Colors of the Wind'
Hunchback of Notre Dame - 'God Help The Outcasts'
    Mulan - 'Reflection'

  • sorry but part of drama is singing. i suggest getting some vocal training then audition. but if you insist then pick a Disney movie song( the little mermaid...)

  • Do not pick a disney song. As a music student who has many theatre friends, they will laugh at you. Yes, it is easy to learn and is expressive, but you will be looked at as a joke if you go in to audition with that. Stay away from Sondheim, most of it is hard (West Side Story is the exception).

If you haven't had vocal training, I would suggest staying in the lower (alto/mezzo) range.

"Nothing" from Chorus line has a pretty easy melody... It's also about drama, so you might be able to get into it easily. It can be your fun one if you have to sing 2 songs.
"I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables is lowish.
"I'm not that girl" from Wicked is low. Not belty. Easy melody. if you only have to do one song, I would choose this. It's very sad and you could do a lot with it (acting wise)

  • Something you know inside out, back to front and upside down. Go for a simple melody that you'll be able to sing when you're nervous, no high notes that you can only get on a good day. It's about how you perform more than how impressive the song is.

I would recommend 'Somewhere, someplace, sometime' from the Denise van Outen version of Tell Me On A Sunday if you can find it. It's the kind of song you can sing in your sleep.
