» My solution to hunting (initial posting complete now)

This is something i have been musing over the last few days and i came about these thoughts when doing my pro-fox hunting thread ( http://www.jref.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36981 -BTW if anyone wants to comment on the issues i raised i the thread they are more than welcome to :) )- one of the main purpose's of the pro-fox hunting thread was that i wanted to make people more aware to the issues of the ban on fox hunting and how if affected the people who benefited from fox hunting etc. One of these main issues i raised in the thread was the wide ranging economical losses the ban caused on small rural communities. Anyways, I would estimate that the large majority of majority of hunting takes places in rural/isolated communities where their ...... - 2010-02-08

» Audition song for drama school....help! ?

From Dec - April 09 I will be auditioning for 6/7 drama schools and I was wondering if anyone can advise me on a song to sing for part of my audition process? Some schools require you to do 2 contrasting pieces and a song! singing is not my forte! Im not terrible! but I was wondering if you can recommend a song thats easy to sing and learn!? thanksSomething you know inside out, back to front and upside down. Go for a simple melody that you'll be able to sing when you're nervous, no high notes that you can only get on a good day. It's about how you perform more than how impressive the song is. I would recommend 'Somewhere, someplace, sometime' from the Denise van Outen version of Tell Me On A Sunday if you can fi...... - 2010-02-08

» VPS Optimization Request

Hi, I moved our site to a new host about a month ago, from a shared hosting account to a VPS. At first things seemed ok, but over the past few days members have been complaining (http://www.talkwrestlingonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28698) about the time it takes to post/reply to threads and edit them. I've also noticed this myself. I've tried to include as much of the info as you have requested but I couldnt do it all as I wasnt sure how to find out some of the information required. 1. Is this on dedicated or shared virual server? Its on a Virtual Private Server (VPS) 2. General server information: Operating system Linux Kernel version 2.4.20-021stab028.19.777-enterprise Machine Type i686 Apache version 1.3.34 (Unix) P...... - 2010-02-08

» C++ rounding up using which func/library

Which library and class function would I use to round up to the nearest 0.5 ex. 4.34 --> 4.5 5.77 --> 6.0 Came across the ceil() function in cmath, wondering if this would work? You’re looking for a complicated solution to a simple problem. You just need to multiply the number by two, round, and then divide by two to get the number you’re looking for. A solution which includes math.h (and thus wasting an extra few bytes of memory): #include float roundhalf (float num) { return round(num*2)/2; } And a solution which does not (just figures whether it would round up or down, and adds one to it if it would round up after it is multiplied by two (equal to adding .5, normally): float roundhalf (float num) { return (num*...... - 2010-02-08

» Multiple Questions...

Hi, I am currently a Groupee Community customer, however, have been thinking of switching to VB. My number one question which will be the factor on whether I move to VB is this: Is it possible to import all of my Groupee Community data to VB? I have NO knowledge of importing things... will help be provided? Could somebody possibly do this for me? Number two is this, is it possible to make a top javascriptish type menu like Groupee Community has (see here, http://community.groupee.com/groupee/forums) with the "Go" "New" etc. type tabs? I really enjoy having them. Is there a way to post a poll without having to start a new thread and then check the box to make it a poll? What I mean is there just a plain "Poll mode" type post? That's al...... - 2010-02-08

I just got a new server and here's the specs: Dual P3 800EB 2 GB SDRAM 80 GB IDE Hard Drive RH Linux 7.3 Apache PHP 4.3.0 MySQL etc With about 200 people online (based on vBulletin who's online), the load fluctuates between 0.90 - 1.10. I know I have persistent connections enabled... should I turn that off? Thanks! I believe so, there is more information , but, I can't remember right now, drew a blank. sorry. You have Native American ancestry, but the percentage is pretty insignificant. You can call yourself mixed if you want. And by the way, Indians are people from India.No.You have to be at least a quarter and in touch with the culture. Accept it. Move on. Yes - you're 1/16th native.how do you know your 1/16th indian? but i gues you can say i'm some what nativesure why notyes but if u wanna qualify to have native benefits ur ancestors have to be one of the founding fathers Not at all, it is fact that anything past one quarter does not really mean anything.Nope...a native would be 100% so unless you grew up on a reservation with 16 ...... - 2010-02-08

» Question about Iranian Islamic law?

I was just reading how a man in Iran blinded a woman with acid so for his punishment this man will also be blinded with acid. What I want to know is how far does the "Eye for an eye tooth for a tooth law go in Iran. If this man let's say slit the throat of this woman's 6 year old daughter and this man also had a 6 year old daughter, would Islamic Iranian law then order this man 6 year old daughter to have her throat slit? Why his daughter? The man himself should have his throat slit.I'm not Iranian, or Islamic, but I'd think thing the man not his daughter would suffer the fate he bestowed upon the child. No, usually the punishment is whipping or beheading. It doesn't really work out that way.Muslim law is reven...... - 2010-02-08

» Cons of deforestation?

I already have a few pros for deforestation, but I also need cons. What I DO have: Loss in diversity Photosynthesis makes the atmosphere cooler as the trees "breathe" No trees = warmer atmosphere Soil erosion Are there any more cons that I missed? Saltation of soils Loss of habitat for endangered human tribesThere will be less oxygen and more carbon dyoxide in the air. you will also kill many species of animals.Endangered species - even more endangered.Loss of future resource for wood or paper products if not replanted Loss of animal habitats and distressing of animal populations Aesthetics Well, lets say we take an equal amount of houses as trees and tear them down in clusters and replace them with an unlivable environment........ - 2010-02-08

» I am curious, I heard someone with a tumor in their head went to a chiropractor to remove a tumor and it bled ?

I am curious, I heard someone with a tumor in their head went to a chiropractor to remove a tumor and it bled more in their face and messed up the operation. I was wondering if it is normal for chiropractors to perform operations to remove tumors? This is a serious question. Thank you.IF IT WAS A TUMOR IN THE HEAD.... then it was probably a neurologist. Chiropractors usually perform surgery on the back and neck not on the head.Chiropractors are NOT, I repeat, NOT surgeons...they do NOT perform any surgery of any kind... orthopedists can perform surgery...but not of the head and neck..and not on tumors (just bone)..a neurologist or an otolarangolist (ears, nose and throat) who is a surgeon could... Sarah Palin is the best governor in the United States. See http://dwb.adn.com/news/politics/story/8... . In fact, her executive talents of successfully running governments as two time mayor and governor is all done without the Clinton administration.Popular governor in a state with a population of around 700,000 where there is an overwhelming majority of Republicans is not really a good measure, but she does have a good approval rating so I'll give her that It would be a good thing for Obama You know people think that she's popular, but she's one of the reasons why McCain lost a lot of moderates The Consevative base may turn out,but it will not be enough to get Independents I'm a female DemocratYes it would be ...... - 2010-02-08

» Christmas tree: green or frosted white? ?

Green with frosted tips...Both look good (in my opinion)... Although, my family has a white one, and I think it really brings out the colors of the lights and ornaments... Here is a link to a picture of one: http://www.ranch.bz/lj/white%20christmas... (Check it out & see if you'd like that...) Also, I think people like white trees 'cuz it looks "White Christmas-y" =D But if you want a traditional tree, go with a green one...Green and a live tree- then you can recycle it back to nature in the woods and make a home for critters the rest of the winter :-)Frosted white. » Windows2000 registry - unable to add a new name-value pair to an existing key

I am logged on as a adminstrator to a Winodws 2000 system and am being denied the ability to add a name/value to the key for Fusion, a tool that came with MS .NET framework. I'm following instructions for enabling a feature by adding this name-value to the Fusion's key. I have already added this successfully on another Winodws 2000 system. However, on my desktop system I'm not alowed to do it even though I'm logged in as the Administrator and I did the original installation of the software. So my question is what do I need to do so I can add this value in the registry? I don't want to have to write a program to do this - it seems like there must be some adminstrative utility for seeing permission constraints on the...... - 2010-02-08

hey, here's my main problem: I want to switch my board to a vbulletin (I currently have two Invision boards, version 2.0PF3) and since they became payed-only, I said to myself if I have to pay I'll pay for quality, so decided to switch ;) but since I'm not that rich, I want to merge the two boards and switch them into one vbulletin...can I do that? (there is some similar accounts two, but no forum alike) thank you =)Yes, you can with impex, abit more work is required to import two differnt forums, but it is not a hard process :)firstly run the upgrade to IPB 2 final then run the importer for one board to vB. » I have seen the light.

I almost posted this in the match recap thread, but there's nothing about the result in here, and it's slightly OT, so here we are: I LOVED the Celtic.net video coverage today. Really professional stuff. I know there are rights issues with us being able to provide the same kind of service, but if I could get that kind of coverage for every Liverpool match (even if it was only for home games), I'd gladly part with 100 pounds or more a year. Beats paying 20 bucks a month to see one game on PPV, and paying for satellite service just to see a game or two a month on tape delay on Fox Sports World. For anyone who knows more about the politics of this than I (which is likely most of you), why do the FA, Sky, BBC, etc. make it so hard for ...... - 2010-02-08

» Buying 2k4 Mazda Rx8 over Nissan 350z and Audi TT from same model year - Smart Call?

Just curious on the thoughts of others - I'm in the market for a new car, and have centered on the 2k4 Mazda Rx8; The decision to settle on this car has mostly to do with the fact that there is a steal of a deal on one in my area, and that it has potentially usable back seats (where as the TTs seats amount to leather shelving and the 350z has none to speak of). I've sat in the back of one myself and found it not too bad. I like car with a kick, but I'm not a power freak or gear-head. Peak speeds and 0-60 times are not as important as comfort and reliability. That being said, I do like having the ability to pass someone on the interstate when I have to. Anyway - Smart call? The Audi is a bit more than the 350z and Audi T...... - 2010-02-08

Thanks!Would we be correct in assuming it was galvanized sheet metal duct work? No, it's not galvanized metal, but the fiberboard w/ the silver exterior.RoseRX, The work is fairly simple if you don稚 mind working in the attic and you stay on the joist. The new ducts you should use have the insulation wrapped around spring type flexible ductwork which is incased in a plastic sleeve. Can someone please tell me a good lens I can get to get a better zoom.budget???????If your just looking for economical focal range pick up the Nikkor 55-200VR.. It's plenty sharp for the price and compliments your 18-55... Good LuckI have been a lurker here for a few months - just joined to post a comment on your question. I have the same camera you have - but I picked out the lens first, and then bought the camera. I would highly recommend the Nikon 18-200 lens as the only lens you will need. » How to set up a Charity Event?

I want to set up a charity event. It can't be costly. I want it to be a raffle or dance or combination of both. Any ideas? Any tips? Any suggestions? Any step by step recommendations? Any favorite charities? Thanks! My idea is that chose a charity you want to donate to if its not one already one where you live. Once you do that get a full idea of what you wanna do before you just say i want to do this. Then to get the word out just put up lost of flyers and tell your friends and family members about it. But you also have to rent a place out if you dont have one.Firstly.you need a licence to collect for charity and preferably be endorsed by the charity you want to help.Approach local companies for help using headed paperwork stating what...... - 2010-02-08

» Eragon ripped off Star Wars....?

i don't want rants about either of these books or to hear about how much people love either of them. Please give reasoned answers. Are you asking whether I think Eragon ripped off Star Wars? Of course. A young farmer living with his uncle figures out that he is the last of a dying group (dragon rider, Jedi). After the death of his uncle, he goes out into the world with a wise old man, attempting to bring down an evil leader, and also to figure out the mysteries of his father (who he never met). On the way, the wise old man dies and the hero meets a rebellious and mysterious man (Han, Murtagh). Together they save a princess, and continue on their journey. This is the summary for both Star Wars and Eragon. The resemblance is too st...... - 2010-02-08

» What are your thoughts?

Sorry i havent been around lately been really busy..... Eitherway Im thinking about getting a new camera. Im thinking the Canon Digital Rebel XTi . What are your thoughts on this camera? TiAIf this is the 400D as we know it in the UK - I am sure you will enjoy it. I use it's big brother the 40D and that does everything I want and more.yep same cameraDunnno what sort of time frame you have on upgrading, but witht he release of the XSi recently, the price should drop soon on the XTi. A great camera for the money. Chocked full of features, only downside is the plasticy build and tiny viewfinder. Try it out first to see how it feels. I find it a bit small and I have small hands.i would wait for the xsi cause it'll be cheaper. It is getting ...... - 2010-02-08

» Telephone or voice mail for home use -- Need one that has 3 menu options

Hi There ! I need to buy a menu telephone or voice mail for home use. EXAMPLE: "Hello. This is Ron. To leave a message for Cindy, press 1. For Jerry, press 2. For everyone else, press 3. Thanks for calling." After callers pressed one of the three numbers, they could then hear a second greeting: EXAMPLE: "Hi. This is Cindy. Please leave a really long message so I can increase Dad's phone bill." A 5-star answer would be a brand name of 2 such telephones/voice mails. No web sites or other background material needed. All comments greatly appreciated ! ronHello Ron, Here are a number of items that have 3 or 4 separate mailboxes. My brother uses my address to get his mail sent to my house so it don't get lost were he stays. He has been using my address for 3 years now and they haven't said anything. But my only symptons are diarhea and some headaches. God, I'm so tired of this crap! Saturday all I did was sleep and it was soo boring, and yesterday I stayed in bed sleeping till 12pm, and then watching a anime on my portable dvd player. would this make any since? I know they are all in a big bind right now so if they would work with each other in this manner, I know they each want there own ID on things but they would be working towards a better good in the end. Each company take on building certain parts for a better MPG vehicle and then market it so we come off the oil that we use all the time. they would be keeping there people working and helping the country at the same time. do you think something like this could work?If it would have been done 20 years ago, yes it could potentially work. However, the logistics behind doing something like that would take years and years of work and billions of dollars to accomoplish. » I lost track of all kinds of permissions...

Hello, Last week I upgraded from vBulletin 3.7.6 to 3.7.1 and I got a notice about updated/changed permissions in the admincp. A few days after the upgrade I got mails from almost all moderators that they are not able to post or edit (not even their own posts). I've checked the permissions everywhere in the admincp, but I lost track of the permission completely. I really do not know anymore which permissions are overriding other permissions, and where you can set what kind of permissions. For example I want to give my usergroup "Employees" permissions to edit posts of other too. But for some reason I cannot do this anymore without giving those users super moderator permissions. Those employees are not moderators so they do not to h...... - 2010-02-08

» Alternative methods of alternative methods :)

I told Orie in another thread I'd try to dig up some of the B&W image transfers I've done, and I found these. But these are a little unusual so they need a little explanation. (When I have images I like because of a feeling they evoke, I like manipulating them in various ways.) I also like exploring the effects of as many Polaroid films as I can with image transfers. These are a few examples of image transfers I achieved by placing infrared prints on a copystand and shooting them with Kodak 64-T slide film. I then had slides of infrared images. I'd read about using Polaroid Polapan 100 for image transfers, one of the few films that doesn't end with the classic "9" designated for other emulsions that lend themselves to...... - 2010-02-08

ive been stuck in bed for last few days wit bad chest infection, but its only getting worse?i collapsed on the way up the stairs wit a fit of coughing,a mixture of coughing and gagging almost, going red wit the coughing,no flem or anything, its a real deep coughGo to the doctor. It does sound a like whooping cough, have you been vaccinated? But you could also have bronchitis, pneumonia or the flu (which has a real deep cough to begin with). I would guess pneumonia if you have a fever 102 or over. You need to see the doctor. If it's whooping cough, you should go in right away because with the right medication, you could shorten the course, which can be a long one.I didn't know you could "feel" cancer. » Funniest thing in Japanese

Anyone a few years into the langauge knows that Japanese humor is usually... well... not very funny. At least not in the ways we're used to. I searched around the forums and found no link to this. It's a bit old (I saw it a year ago I think) but I still laugh when I watch it. Probably sounds familiar to anyone that recalls their first year of Japanese. This will be a good lesson on a lot of ways NOT to say things. Enjoy. http://pine.zero.ad.jp/yori/shinbashi.swfLMAO! That was awesomely funny. It reminded me of being in Japanese class, especially the one guy who would lag behind. And how could you not love シンバシ、シンバシ、シンバシ! Thanks for sharing, GP. :D:DThat was very funny. » Why isn't there a third cola company - i.e other than Coke and Pepsi?

After Coke and Pepsi - we have not seen a third popular cola company? Why NOT. In almost every area we have "many" competing brands - but NOT IN THIS ONE!!! whyI agree with the person who asked about Dr Pepper. I actually preferred Virgin Soda (tried to gain foothold in the US around 2005). At the time I said I preferred the taste, but I just liked shouting "I must ravish the virgins!" They should have used me for marketing =) That, and cola tastes around the same, and costs the same, so people have brand loyalties. If a cola costs the same, they go for the brand. If it's inexpensive, they see it as inferior. It's like when coca cola tried to change the formula. The blind taste test said people perferred the new one...... - 2010-02-08

Thinking about getting a 2001 Nissan Frontier, I have read the Car and Driver take on it, sounds wonderful, NOW I want some owners who actually have one to tell me what they think of it. Its the 4 door, V6! Don't know all the other exacts yet since I am still looking at them, haven't picked "thee" one out yet Thanks2001 Frontier is not as good of a truck as the 2005 and newer. the 4.0 liter motor uses a timing chain and makes 265 hp towing is better and no real difference in fuel economy. The economy is such you should be able to help some one pay there mortgage if you take there 3 or 4 year old Frontier off of them. » Dir en grey

Does anyone know exactly what the 1st press of Kisou looks like and what it comes with? I have a habit of wanting all the 1st press versions of CD's. I already have Kisou but have no idea if its the 1st press or not, and the place nearby that sells some Japanese CD's has another version (totally silver front cover instead of the grey front cover - both are official CD's, just ones obviously older than the other.) Any ideas? xxStarxxCheck if it's not a Hong Kong or Taiwan release. Those usually have a different cover. I think you can tell the pressing of a cd when you look at the inside (usually transparent) ring of the disc. There's usually a number printed there and if the last number is a 1, then it should be a first pressing. ...... - 2010-02-08

From my text book, it teaches me sentences like: 富士山は 高い 山です。 Then I heard a song whose lyric is like: 大きな 太鼓 ドンドン 小さな 太鼓 どんどんどん 。 Why does the 2nd sentence is not like "大きい 太鼓 ドンドン 小さい 太鼓 どんどんどん 。"??? Thanks in advance.:relief:Have you gotten into な vs い adjectives? There are basically two kinds... the two I just mentioned. 大きい and 小さい happen to be special, in that they can be used both ways.
